A guide to removing drink spills from the carpet

A tasty beverage is something that everyone enjoys, especially when it is somewhere comfortable, like their own home. If you cannot do anything in the morning without coffee, or spending some time with a favourite book just doesn’t feel the same without a cup of tea, then you are definitely not alone. 

There is a dark side to enjoying your favourite drinks at home, and it comes in the form of carpet stains. Accidents happen, and it is up to you to react quickly and address the stain on the carpet left from your beverage. In this guide, you will find some effective cleaning tips, which can literally save your carpet from trouble. 

  1. Fizzy drinks

These stains are common enough, especially when you have children running around. The youngsters are huge fans of anything fizzy, so when the inevitable happens, and they spill on the carpet, you need to be armed with the knowledge on how to deal with the stain. The first thing to do is to dab the area with a clean cloth or paper towel, to remove the excess liquid before it spreads into the fabric. Next up, you should mix a quarter tsp. laundry detergent with half a cup of water. Work the solution by blotting the stain from the outside towards the centre. Repeat this until the stain is no longer visible on the carpet surface. 

  1. Wine Stains 

If you are a fan of exquisite wine, you undoubtedly often enjoy a glass of it in good company. However, seeing some of the drink spilt on the carpet can give you a mini-heart attack. Acting as fast as possible to remove the excess liquid is very important, as wine sets quickly into any kind of fabric. Use a clean cloth or paper towel to remove the excess. Then, apply some soda water on the stain. Don’t overdo it; a tiny amount that you can then blot further is more than enough for the task. Repeat this until you see the wine is no longer visible on the carpet. If you lack soda water and the stain is from red wine, you should try some white wine. It can dilute the red wine and make it more prone to lift up. Once the stain is gone, apply water to rinse the area. That ought to remove any residue soda water. Once you are done, you can use a hair dryer to remove the excess moisture. 

  1. Coffee Stains Carpet Stains

As usual, you need to blot up as much of the coffee as possible. The liquid needs to be removed, or else it will become almost impossible to clean from the fibres. The next step is to mix 1tbsp. liquid dish soap, 1tbsp. white vinegar and 2 cups warm water. Sponge the stain with this mix by using a clean white cloth. Apply only a small bit at a time, dabbing with a clean cloth at the same time. It won’t be long before you see the stain disappear. The final step is to sponge with some cold water and blot the area dry. 

  1. Tea Stains 

With tea stains, the procedure is no different. First, you blot the stain to remove most of the excess liquid. Then, mix some white vinegar and water. Spray the solution on the carpet and then blot again. Repeat all of the steps a few times until the stain is gone.
